Herbert Key Jenkins went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2012. He was born on July 26, 1929 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, a son of Claude M (Key) Jenkins and Mildred N. (Underwood) Jenkins. He was a graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Logan County of Ohio. He served in the Korean War. He was employed by the railroad, as an engineer for the New York Central, Penn Central, and Conrail for 44 years, relocating to the Big 4 Yards in Avon in 1965. He was married to Dottie L. (Organ) Jenkins in 1954. He is survived by his wife; his son, Michael (Tammy); daughter, Christine (Mark) Stewart; 5 grandchildren, Taryn (Mike) Stewart Thurston, Adam (Jessi) Stewart, Matt Stewart, Lindsay Jenkins, and Molly Stewart; 3 step-grandchildren, Bobby (Jill) Gonterman, Bridget (Ron) Hollada, and Bryant (Morgan) Gonterman; and 9 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Sydney, Emma, Caleb, Ashlyn, Reanna, Anthony, Elizabeth, and Adalynn; and two sisters Carolyn Fitzpatrick of Bellefontaine,Ohio and Dorothy (William) Sutton of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Hal Key Jenkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29 at Bartlett Chapel, 4396 E. Main Street, Avon, Indiana. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28 at Bartlett Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bartlett Chapel or Advocate Hospice, 2605 E. Main Street, Danville, IN 46122. Dottie & Family, our hearts go out to all. Herb will always be remembered the most of taking Hector for walks – now they are walking together. Dave & I do not know what we would have done without you both keeping an eye on David’s mother after my mother past. Herb was a great man and yes he will be missed a bunch. God Bless to all!
